Amman, Oct. 22 (Petra) The Jordanian-American Diwan of Southern California, a nonprofit community organization, has begun implementing an initiative to provide free Arabic language instruction to members of the Jordanian community.
The program aims to strengthen the connection of Jordanian younger generations to their mother tongue, while fostering a sense of national identity and allegiance to Jordan.
In a statement, Farouk Jarrah, President of the Diwan’s Administrative Board, stated this initiative is part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to serve the Jordanian community in the United States, preserve the Arabic language, and introduce new generations to Jordan's history and national identity.
He added that the Diwan has initiated the necessary steps to launch an educational program offering Arabic language lessons "entirely free of charge," with zero fees or tuition costs for families, ensuring that all community members can benefit.
On its scope, Jarrah added that the program will go beyond language instruction by introducing participants to Jordan's history and its national values, which would help younger generations "maintain a bond with their homeland, despite the geographical distance." He noted that the initiative is due to collective efforts of the Diwan’s board members and seeks to create a space that brings the community together around their language and culture.
Through this initiative, he noted that the Diwan aims to expand its role in serving the community and supporting future generations, by offering programs that help preserve the Arabic language and Jordanian identity among Jordanians living abroad.
